HIGH BANDS

Some people say History is one of the most important school subjects. Other people think that, in today’s world, subjects like Science and Technology are more important than History. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

To begin with, the intellectuals who are in the favour of history subject believes that history provides a comprehensive understanding of past events, cultures, and societies. History helps individuals connect with their cultural heritage and identity. It provides a sense of belonging and allows students to appreciate the diversity of human experiences.

In addition, studying history encourages the development of critical thinking skills. Students learn to analyze and evaluate information, consider different perspectives, and make informed judgments. History is full of examples of both successes and failures. By studying historical events, students can learn from the mistakes of the past and apply those lessons to contemporary challenges. For example, realization of unfortunate division of India makes students realize the importance of unity in the country.

Alternatively, the other group argues that in today’s increasingly digital and technologically driven world, having a basic understanding of science and technology is essential. It helps students become technologically literate, enabling them to navigate and participate in a society heavily influenced by technology.

Secondly, many of the jobs and careers of the future will require a solid foundation in science and technology. If students are exposed to these subjects in school, they are more likely to prepare themselves for a wide range of professions, including those in Science, Technology and Engineering fields.

Importantly, science and technology are at the forefront of innovation. By studying these subjects, students are exposed to new ideas, technologies, and scientific advancements, which can inspire creativity and a passion for discovery.
