IELTS ESSAY 2025

Young people are often influenced in their behaviors by others in the same age group. Some argue that peer pressure is important while others feel it has distinct disadvantages. Do the disadvantages of peer pressure outweigh the advantages?

Peer pressure is when young people are influenced by others their age, making them do things, good or bad. It is generally noticed that modern youth is today more influenced by the behaviour and ideas of their friends and folk. This essay will look at the good and bad sides of peer pressure on young folks.

To begin with, bad peer pressure can make teenagers do risky stuff, like trying drugs because their friends do it. Wanting to fit in might make them forget what’s right, and this can be harmful to their health and lead to problems later on. Also, giving in to bad peer pressure can hurt how well they do in school. They might care more about being liked than doing well in their studies, which can lead to lower grades and fewer opportunities for their future.

On the flip side, there’s also good peer pressure. Friends can encourage each other to set higher goals and do well in school. Being part of a study group can help them learn better and succeed in their studies. Good friends can also inspire healthy habits, like exercising and pursuing hobbies, making their lives better. Being around friends who support and encourage each other can help a person grow and feel more confident.

In the end, peer pressure has both good and bad sides. Finding a balance between being independent and having positive influences from friends is important. This way, the drawbacks can be minimized, and the benefits can be embraced.
