IELTS ESSAY 2025

Some people believe that people who read books can develop more imagination and language skills than those who prefer to watch TV. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

While some argue that reading books for enjoyment is more beneficial for imagination and language skills compared to watching TV, I assert that both activities contribute equally to intelligence and language proficiency.

To begin with, books help kids think and be creative when they read fairy tales with pictures. This boosts their imagination and brain skills. Reading books in different languages helps with language skills, building a strong language base, expanding vocabulary, and understanding words in different situations. Importantly, when adults read books out loud to kids, it helps them communicate better by learning spoken words for daily conversations.

Alternatively, watching TV is also good for imagination. For example, tourism shows share global knowledge with pictures of landscapes and flavors from different places. Quiz shows on TV are useful for learning, making both kids and adults think critically. Furthermore, TV is also good for language skills, especially with modern English programs that connect words to lively images and keep people interested with entertaining content. In summary, both reading books and watching TV are important for imagination and language skills.

In conclusion, while the undeniable benefits of reading books exist, they should not overshadow the crucial role TV plays in enhancing imagination and language skills in individuals. Both activities contribute meaningfully to intellectual development.
