IELTS ESSAY 2025

Nowadays, a lot of offices employ open-space designs instead of separate rooms for work. Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?

Many offices now prefer open layouts instead of the old-fashioned ones with separate spaces. I think this is a good change because it brings social and work benefits, even though it might not be as efficient.

Having open spaces might make it a bit harder for people to work quickly. When people have their own private offices or work in separate areas, they can focus better without getting interrupted. Interruptions can make someone stop working, and it takes time to get back on track. If this happens a lot during the day, it can add up and make people do less work overall. Recent research even shows that while talking around the office is good, it can also make people do less work. So, for the best results, offices might want to have some private spaces for working.

On the other hand, having open spaces is great for talking and sharing ideas. For example, Steve Jobs, who started Apple, designed offices that made people meet in common areas. This helped people from different parts of the company talk more and get creative together. This not only makes people happy to be at work but also helps them come up with more imaginative ideas.

To sum up, even though having open offices might make it a bit harder to work fast, it’s a good change because it lets people talk more and be more creative. I think more offices should follow this idea.
