Task 2: In many part of the world, children are given more freedom than in the past. Is this a positive or negative development?
The trend of granting children increased autonomy in contemporary society is very common. I believe it can be viewed as negative change and there are reasons for the same.
To begin with, when children receive too much freedom without enough guidance, they may not learn how responsibility and consequences are connected. This can lead to poor decision-making. Without the necessary experience or maturity, kids might make choices that could negatively impact their future, like ignoring their schoolwork or taking part in risky activities.
In addition, with more freedom, children are often less supervised. This can be dangerous, especially for younger kids and teenagers. In today’s world, there are many physical and digital dangers, like wandering into unsafe places or encountering harmful online content. If kids do not have enough parental supervision, they may not make the safest choices, which could lead to dangerous situations.
Importantly, more freedom can also weaken the bond between children and their parents. If parents pull back too much, they miss chances to have important conversations that build family values and teach life lessons. This can make children feel disconnected from their family, leading them to seek advice and approval from friends or other influences who might not guide them well.
To sum up, granting children too much autonomy can lead to poor decision-making, increased exposure to dangers due to less supervision, and weakened family bonds, as they may turn to peers for guidance instead of parents.
