IELTS ESSAY 2025

Modern parents do not allow their children to play outdoors. What are the advantages and disadvantages of playing indoor?

Though out door activities are highly important for children but it is generally noticed that contemporary parents discourage their children from engaging in outdoor play. This practice has both pros and cons which will be discussed in ensuing paragraphs.

To begin with the merits, since modern parents are very conscious about the safety of their children, they want them to be indoor as playing indoors provides a safer environment, shielding children from potential outdoor hazards such as traffic, extreme weather, or rough terrains.

In addition, parents can more easily supervise indoor play, ensuring that children engage in activities that are appropriate for their age and promoting a secure play environment.

Importantly, Indoor play is not dependent on weather conditions, allowing children to stay active and entertained regardless of rain, snow, or extreme temperatures. This means that regardless of the weather outside, children can engage in various play and recreational activities indoors.  For example, on a rainy day, children can still enjoy playing board games, doing puzzles, engaging in creative arts and crafts, or even participating in indoor sports or games.

Alternatively, indoor play may involve less physical activity compared to outdoor play, potentially contributing to a sedentary lifestyle and associated health concerns. Secondly, playing indoors may restrict children from experiencing the benefits of nature, including fresh air, sunlight, and the sensory stimulation provided by outdoor environments.

Last not least, indoor play might limit the opportunities for spontaneous social interactions with other children, as outdoor spaces often encourage group play and collaboration while indoor a child may be busy at his play station playing with virtual friends.

To sum up, despite the significance of outdoor activities for children, contemporary parents often discourage them from playing outside due to safety concerns. While indoor play offers a safer environment and year-round accessibility, it may lead to less physical activity and limit exposure to nature. Additionally, it can impede spontaneous social interactions compared to outdoor spaces.
