IELTS ESSAY 2025

It has been suggested that primary children should learn how to grow vegetables and keep animals. Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?

It has been suggested that primary school children should be taught how to grow vegetables and take care of animals. This idea aims to teach them practical skills and responsibility, but it also raises concerns about the time and effort required. This essay will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this suggestion to decide if the benefits are greater than the drawbacks.

One big advantage is that children can learn important life skills. If they grow vegetables and care for animals, they will understand how food is produced and how to take care of living things. This makes them more responsible and independent, which is useful in life.

Another benefit is that these activities can improve children’s physical and mental health. Gardening and looking after animals involve physical work, which helps children stay active and healthy. Being close to nature also reduces stress and improves focus, making children happier and more relaxed.

Finally, these activities can teach teamwork. If children work in groups to grow plants or care for animals, they will learn how to cooperate with others, solve problems, and share responsibilities. These are valuable skills for their future.

However, there are some disadvantages. One problem is the time and resources required. Schools may need extra money, space, and time to manage these activities, which might take attention away from subjects like math and science.

Another issue is that not all children will enjoy or benefit from these tasks. For example, children with allergies or a fear of animals may feel uncomfortable. This could make the experience stressful for some.

Lastly, managing these activities can be difficult. Taking care of animals and gardens needs regular effort and supervision. If this is not done properly, it could lead to problems, such as neglecting the animals.

In conclusion, teaching primary children to grow vegetables and care for animals has many benefits, such as teaching life skills, improving health, and encouraging teamwork. However, there are challenges related to time, resources, and student comfort. Despite these drawbacks, the advantages are greater if schools plan these activities carefully and make them fun for all children.
