Some people think that university students should specialize in one subject, while others think universities should encourage students to learn a range of subjects. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Universities are the temple of learning where ample knowledge is imparted to the students. But what can be the perfect structure of teaching in terms of subjects has always been a matter of controversy. There is one belief that these institutions should make learners expert in one subject but other think differently that variety of subjects should be taught to the learners. I need to study both the views to frame my views.
A group of people who are in the favour of one subject believe that every subject has its depth as there is no end to learning. A student willing to become doctor need to get thorough knowledge of biology. Even in that subject he will get in depth study and his good knowledge will help him go perfect in his work and in future, he will be able to do justice to his work.
In addition, curriculum of many subjects may confuse the learners and may make them go under stress as there is already high competition in the society. Instead of jumping into many things at a time, better option is to focus on one and become confident.
Looking at other viewpoint, Knowledge of many subjects is the idea favoured by other group of intellectuals. Since it is a time of multi talented people, good information about different things can make a person more eligible for a job. To make it more clear, a person with knowledge of many things can handle different tasks at work and can understand the limit and possibilities of job he is doing.
Secondly, if one is not successful in one stream, he can try his luck in some other stream if one is having knowledge. Most importantly, in the time on technology, there are so many things are required to be learnt. For example a mechanical engineer will find himself more easy at work if he also knows how to operate computer or some applications that he may need at work.
Finally, i perceive that undoubtedly knowledge of one particular subject make one expert in the field but today big companies hire those who are multi skilled. I would recommend to go for more and more knowledge as it will not only make some more sought after in job market but also help him carrying out his work more efficiently.
To conclude, the more one learns, the more beneficial it will be for him. The universities should continue with their objective of imparting knowledge of different subjects.
Task 2: Some people think that the government should decide the subject for students to study in university. Others believe that students should be allowed to apply for the subject they prefer. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Entering university for higher education is a crucial stage of life. Some believe that the government is the right authority to choose the subjects while others argue that students should be permitted to have their choice of subjects. I will discuss both the views to reach my perception.
To begin, a group of people opine that the government can take better decisions. This is because the government knows in which sector they need to progress and the workforce can be skilled for the same sector. Many times some sectors of society fail to develop for lack of labour force and in order to expand the sector government can mould the flow of students towards it.
In addition, they are also well aware of the job opportunities available within the country and outside of it. Consequently, they can design courses that offer better employment opportunities for children. For example, government gives great concession in fee to the students who opt social services subjects as there are great job opportunities in this stream. In this way government promote the subjects.
Alternatively, other section of society has different views that students are knowledgeable enough to decide what they want to study. They are not only aware of the suitable career options but also understand the means to achieve them. For instance, with the advent of social media they are well connected with college seniors and expert teachers from around the globe that all the latest developments in their field are well known to them.
To conclude, whether the subjects should be selected by the government or the students continues to be a debatable topic. In my opinion, the government has better exposure and understanding than students to decide because they would not only provide jobs to the students but also get skill labor for required sector.
