Many people believe that formal ‘pen and paper’ examinations are not the best method of assessing educational achievement. Others find it important to assess the performance of students. Give your own opinion.
Examinations are the parameter in which the caliber of student regarding their academic performance is measured. Many people believe that traditional method such as ‘ pen and paper ‘ is not the best method for evaluating the performance of learners in studies. I agree that it is not the best method and I have some convincing points to prove my views.
To begin with, the people who believe that it is not a good idea to evaluate the student’s performance by taking ‘pen and paper’ exam because a student learns numerous things throughout the year so it is not possible to show all their knowledge by giving exam in limited time. Hence, the idea of assessing educational achievement by giving these exam is definitely not good.
The another reason is that, during examination time, students are over stressed because they know that their whole performance will be judged on the basis of their academic score because of this pressure, students not only find it difficult to concentrate on their studies but also fail to give their best attempt in the exams. For example, a survey on child behavior also reveals that a huge number of children go into depression during their examination which affects their academic scores.
Digging out the another reason, there are many intelligent students who really work hard throughout the year but some students cheat in the exams and get better scores than the students who study day and night to achieve the ranks. Thus, the hard work of those students go waste. So, there is no importance left of these exams.
To sum up, I personally believe that evaluating the ability of these students on the basis of ‘pen and paper’ exam is definitely not the best idea as they become nervous while giving the exam ,some students also use unfair methods to clear the exam and many more things.
