Tests and examinations are a central feature if school systems in many countries. Do you think the educational benefits of testing outweigh any disadvantages? Give reasons for your answer.
In today’s era, in many institutions education is provided to its students and their knowledge is tested on the basis of exams. It is believed that tests and exams play significant role in school system of many nations. So, it has both merits and demerits which I am going to discuss in upcoming paragraphs.
To initiate with, there are many advantages of tests and exams in schools. With the help of exams, institutes can differentiate among students according to their performance and teachers can easily focus on weakness of weak students. Moreover, many students can know in which subject they are good on which they need to work. Furthermore, schools can also know the interest of their students which will be beneficial for both teachers and students. It also help students to be more serious about their studies. For example, in many states, students improved their concentration level as they knew they have to give exams.
Alternatively, there are some disadvantages of it, instead of preparing well, many students get panic which affects their performance in the exams. Despite having a lot of knowledge, they fail to exhibit it. For example, in an article it was mentioned that many students fail in exams every year only due to nervousness.
To sum up, although there are some drawbacks of tests and exams but I believe that advantages still outweigh disadvantages because exams and tests help students and teachers to know the weak points on which they can later work to become better in studies.
